Many of us have moved away from the country in which we were born. In some cases it was a conscious decision; in others it “just happened”. The rhinoceros is a symbol of where I came from and a symbol of the continent on which I grew up. We carry our identity and our history with us, and yet as we live in different places so we are moulded and changed by those environments too. The numbers down the side of the plate refer to my identity number issued in South Africa.
