The Goat Series

The Goat Series consist of three print. The large print “the bearded one” and a smaller pair “everlasting” and untitled (the end).

 There are images that transport us through space and time. The Goat is one of incredible nostalgia for me and takes me back to my childhood. A farm in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The goat is steeped in tradition particularly within the African tradition.  A goat would be sacrificed at birth to introduce a child to its ancestors and again as part of the rites of passage to adulthood ceremony.

Particular to me is there enduring quality of returning home. The goats on our farm would go out to graze in the thick bush and would always return of their own accord to their enclosure in the evening. And so we return “home” in memories.
